About the Business
Top Spot is a friendly, family run salon. We offer a wide range of hairdressing services to both male and female clients and have done for over 37 years now. In January 1976 Eric and Eilean Lander arrived in Corby and bought the old Maison Gordon salon on the Balcony. They gave the premises the name of Top Spot and introduced up-to-date fashions and styling techniques to Corby. Less than three years later they opened their second salon, Somewhere Else, and their daughter, Pam joined them in the running of the business.
In 1979 they weathered the storm of the steel workers' strike and their commitment to their staff was shown by the fact that they did not 'lay off' any of their twenty staff. They were one of the very few salons in Corby to do this. By 1985 they decided to move the Top Spot salon from The Balcony in Corby to Uppingham where Eric Junior did most of his training when he joined the business in 1987.
